Transportation
Transportation within Accra
The easiest way to travel in Accra is through taxi or trotro (minibuses). Accra has a simple yet complex trotro system that covers the whole city. The main stations are at Tema station, Nkrumah Circle, 37 and Kaneshi. Taking a trotro is inexpensive and gives a good feeling of Accra, however it takes a bit longer than going with a taxi. Taxis have unlimited range and are worth considering, especially at night, though they can get expensive. Taxis are hired at taxi ranks or directly at the street. The taxi rate varies; it is always advisable to ask for a fare before you agree to travel.
Transportation outside of Accra
When travelling outside of Accra it is recommended to use buses. Intercity buses, known as STC are comfortable, run regularly and are safe. Buses heading west and north leave from Obetsebi-Lamptey Circle station, while Tudu station at the north end of Makola Market serves those going east. Another more expensive, yet more relaxing option for longer trips can be the V.I.P busses that move from Accra New Plant Station, close to Nkruma Circle. Trotros also traffic longer distances outside of Accra, while its not recommended to travel with them because of the risk of accidents and over speeding.
